Jess Joes, chief of the Berry Fire District, presented the department's 2024 activity report to the town board, saying the department logged 3,100 combined training hours and responded to 196 calls last year. "We had 3100 hours of training in 2024," Joes said, and detailed a mix of incidents including 102 EMS calls, 14 motor vehicle accidents and five structure fires.
Joes told the board the district placed a new 6-8 light rescue truck into service on March 11 and that an older 2007 truck sold for $69,000 to a small department in Hertzboro, Alabama. He also flagged recruiting and retention as the department's biggest ongoing challenge and said he aims to strengthen town–fire service relations going forward.
