Eagle design board launches workshop to update site design book, hires staff lead

The Design Review Board convened a workshop on the city's architecture and site-design book and asked members to identify buildings they liked and disliked to inform an update. Chair (speaker 5) told members staff had hired Callie Gray to lead the effort and that staff will prepare a draft for the board to review at a future workshop.

"We wanted to present this as a workshop session to where we could go over the components of the architecture and site design book update," Chair said, announcing the dedicated staff position and a planned iteration process. Chair said the updated product will be taken through the board's normal adoption process after members review a draft.

Board members discussed how the site-design book interacts with the city's development regulations, and staff noted the work sits under Title 8 (development regulations). The board asked staff to balance clarity for applicants with flexibility for varied contexts; staff committed to returning a draft (referred to in the meeting as "EASD 2.0") and to schedule another workshop so members can provide detailed comments.

The board did not take formal policy votes at the meeting; instead members gave direction to staff on scope and approach. Staff said they will incorporate the board's guidance, test language against planning code where applicable, and return with a draft that highlights suggested downtown overlays and suggested clarifications to reduce applicant confusion.
