Village approves income survey to support WEA grant application for water work

The Village of Nassau board agreed to commission an income survey that staff said is necessary to support a WEA grant application for water-main and PFAS-related work. Chair (S1) explained the survey requirement and deadline: “If we wanted to apply for the grant, we need to do the survey.”
Members discussed grant types and strategy: S7 said WEA grants favor shovel-ready projects and may offer a better chance than the DWSRF, which is point-based. The board considered doing a full village survey versus a targeted-service-area approach; doing the whole village would produce baseline data usable for future projects, while targeted reports could drill down to meet hardship criteria if village-wide results fall short.
A proposal for the income survey was on file; S3 noted a down-payment (30%) requirement and the board confirmed funding is available in the water/engineering budget. The board moved, seconded and approved a motion to proceed with the income survey so the village could meet the grant application schedule (application discussed as due in July).
