Engineer outlines bridge work, demolition progress and urges council to prioritize streets for 2026 paving

Demolition for properties included in the original base bid is nearly complete; the engineer reported that 23 base‑bid properties have been demolished and two additional properties were added to the contract. The engineer also presented the year's paving list and warned it exceeds CHIPS funding: council must reduce scope to approach the available budget (the engineer estimated the program would need to get down to roughly $2.3 million to fit anticipated funding).
Council and staff discussed coordination with National Grid and the importance of accounting for gas‑line work when selecting streets for paving. The engineer said permit conditions now require repaving an entire lane where openings occur within five years of a prior paving to preserve rideability.
The council directed the engineer to return recommended prioritized lists by the end of the week so members can finalize which streets to include in the 2026 program.
