County rep reports veterans program and ambulance transfer agreement; DCO flags shelter limitations

County Representative Meg Kennedy updated the board that the 'green light' program supporting veterans will return in November and that the county has received funds to support veterans' activities, meals and emergency needs. She said the County Board approved the Deputy Sheriffs' 2025 contract and that the county signed an agreement with Bassett Hospital to permit paid ambulance transfers; the county's 2025 budget work continues, including consideration of capital-plan items.
On animal control, DCO Keegan Holt (not present at the meeting) advised the board that he did not believe SuperHeros can offer an after-hours drop-off like the SSPCA and that he does not have a place to hold dogs pending shelter transfer. Supervisor Lentz said he would call the SSPCA about the large 2025 increase they are requesting. The board will follow up with county and shelter contacts about shared services and costs.
