The Common Council approved Resolution 2526‑171 authorizing the mayor to execute a memorandum of agreement with Amsterdam Professional Firefighters Local 2825 that extends the current collective bargaining agreement from 07/01/2026 through 06/30/2029. The MOA also permits the city to hire non‑firefighter paramedics and EMTs to support emergency medical services through the MOA's term, and states such positions will be discontinued upon expiration unless mutually agreed otherwise.
Council members thanked Fire Chief Agresta and others for negotiating the agreement. "It took a while to put this together, and I think it's going to be something that's good for our city," a council member said (S5). The resolution was read into the record and adopted by roll call; council members recorded aye votes.
The authorization tasks the mayor and relevant departments with executing the MOA and taking any administrative steps necessary to implement its terms. The MOA text was made available in the clerk's packet and council members confirmed copies were on file.
