Town reviews 2025 employee health plans after MVP rate increases

Kevin Morse of Kaatirondack Benefit Planning told the board that, due to rising medical costs, carriers have NYS-approved premium increases for 2025. "Our current Silver Plan with MVP has a 11.52% increase over 2024 rates and if we switched to their bronze plan, it would be a 2.8% increase over 2024 rates," Morse said, adding the Bronze plan would raise the town’s potential deductible exposure to $28,400 from $18,600.
Morse said the town has traditionally used an under-deductible budgeting approach but recommended budgeting for the full deductible amount. He also reported that MVP offered better rates than Excellus and CDPHP in the quotes he checked and offered to meet with highway staff to explain differences between plans before the board selects a plan in November.
