Board appoints Melaina Woodbeck to fill council vacancy through 2025

After the board acknowledged Councilwoman Laura Curtis’s resignation, four residents presented brief statements of interest for the open council seat. George Knarich described prior community involvement, Robert Schenfeld noted his retired law-enforcement background and business ownership, Mike Turek noted his EMT experience and work with Morris Rec Youth Sports, and Melaina Woodbeck said she has lived in town 38 years, runs businesses and serves with the Garrattsville Fire Company and as Justice Clerk.
Supervisor Edward Lentz said the appointment runs through Dec. 31, 2025, and that candidates who wish to run for the remainder of the term must prepare nominating petitions in early spring. The board voted unanimously (motion by Nancy Martin-Mathewson, seconded by Brian Ryther; 3 Ayes/0 Nays) to appoint Melaina Woodbeck to the vacant Town Council seat.
