The Amsterdam Common Council voted to waive $5,000 in registered-agent penalties placed on the tax bill for 366 West Main Street, known as Guy Park Manor.
During discussion council members noted the property is owned by the New York State Canal Corporation and likely should have been exempt from the city’s registered-agent requirement; the clerk read the whereas clauses stating the penalties were levied in 2022 and 2023 and that the property is owned by a public benefit corporation. As read, "Whereas property owned by New York State Canal Corporation, which is a public benefit corporation ..."
A roll-call vote approved Resolution 2526-178 unanimously; staff said the assessor is compiling a list of similar properties to ensure records are updated and avoid future assessments of the same penalties.
