The Amsterdam Common Council on April 21 approved a $63,000 transfer to replace two failing soda-ash pumps used to add alkalinity to the municipal drinking-water system.
A council member presented Resolution 2526-179, saying, "2 replacement soda ash pumps are needed to add alkalinity to the drinking water, at the cost of $63,000." The resolution moves $63,000 from the chemicals expense line to a soda-ash pump project expense to purchase the proprietary pumps and restore redundancy.
Council members voted unanimously in favor of the budget amendment. The clerk recorded the roll call, and staff noted the chemical budget was forecast to maintain a surplus adequate to cover replacement costs for the current fiscal year.
