The Greenwood Board of Aldermen approved Resolution 2026-46 to accept change order number 1 with contractor Compam for replacement of the playground at Joltine Park.
Staff member (speaker S5) told the board, "This change order adds on $15,000 for the additional dirt work, which brings [the] grand total project cost" and said half of that amount is reimbursable through the main water conservation fund. Staff summarized that because of the reimbursement arrangement the city's net cost for the change order is $7,500.
The change order arose after excavation found deeper-than-expected pea gravel in the central area of the playground. Staff said the center depth reached about 10 inches in places instead of the 5 inches that had been anticipated, requiring additional fill across roughly 11,000 square feet.
After questions and discussion about contractor responsibilities and whether the extra work represented an error or an unforeseeable subsurface condition, Mayor (speaker S1) put the resolution to a voice vote; the motion carried and the mayor declared the motion passed. Staff said installation work would begin at the end of the week and equipment would appear on site soon.
