Committee endorses $41,100 cybersecurity grant to help police IT upgrades

Jennifer Sweeney summarized the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program award and said the city has the option to accept $41,100 to cover equipment and consultant/contractual services related to police IT. "We have the option to accept $41,100 for equipment and consultants/contractual," Sweeney said, and noted the 2026 budget already included major police technology and security changes so the grant would offset those planned expenditures.
Dennis Crow Sr. moved and Tom Marx seconded a motion to recommend acceptance of the grant to the Common Council. The roll call vote recorded Heller-Aye, Kutz-Aye, Flanagan-Aye, Stevenson-Aye, Crow Sr.-Aye and Marx-Aye; the motion carried. The committee’s recommendation sends the grant acceptance to the Common Council for final action.
