The Chair of the Educator Excellence Committee opened the August meeting by saying the committee’s primary goal remains "supporting early educator retention," and outlined a schedule for turning a newly commissioned report into concrete recommendations for sister agencies and the board.
The Chair said Jen will draft a report over the next week that synthesizes previous discussions, existing research and the commissioned market report; committee members will then redline and edit asynchronously before the next committee meeting. The Chair said the committee plans to invite educators in mid-September for direct feedback, complete a final draft for an October working session and seek board approval at the public meeting in October, with preparations to take the package to a council hearing in the fall. The Chair noted the market-report material should be translated into "asks" the committee will advocate with partner agencies.
Staff indicated they will run the proposed timeline by Executive Director Butler and other office leads to ensure nothing is missing and will update the committee on any additional concerns. Committee member Ben urged the group to prioritize a short list of recommendations so implementation is feasible; Ben offered to work with staff to identify the top proposals. The meeting concluded with staff taking action items to schedule follow-up meetings and Jen assigned to produce the draft recommendations.
