Council approves special-use permit for 77 Kerr Street

Onancock Mayor Foske opened a public hearing on a special-use permit for 77 Kerr Street and asked Town Manager Matt Spuck to summarize the application. Spuck said the structure is a duplex constructed in the 1960s that has been blighted and was recently purchased; under town rules, allowing a second apartment in the building requires a special-use permit.
"This is a duplex that was built in the sixties, and it has been blighted for a long, long time," Spuck said, explaining why the permit was needed to regularize occupancy. There was no public comment, and Council member (mover) formally moved to adopt the permit.
After brief discussion, council asked for a roll-call vote. Council members Holdren, Marino, Nock, Oswald and Weitzel voted in favor; the motion passed 5 to 0. The council recorded the approval and closed the public hearing. The permit will be processed according to town procedures and any required follow-up inspections will be scheduled by town staff.
