Dixon Public Library outlines February programs, highlights outreach van and senior services

Raliana Garcia, the Dixon Public Library adult-and-teen librarian, and Joan Parker, Solano County community outreach librarian, presented the library's February programming and outreach plans at the Parks and Recreation Commission meeting on Jan. 28, 2025.
Garcia and Parker detailed a mix of one-off events and weekly activities. Parker said the outreach van will visit branches and community events across the county “from Dixon all the way down to Vallejo and Rio Vista,” offering card sign-ups, story times, crafts, tech help and in-van returns and checkouts. The February lineup includes a Village Rhythms performance for Black History Month on Feb. 20, a Solano Mobility transit presentation on Feb. 28, teen Valentine cookie decorating on Feb. 14 and other family programs. Garcia described recurring weekly offerings such as family story time, bilingual story hours, teen Nintendo Switch hours and a Build It Club for children.
Why it matters: the library’s outreach van and senior tech help expand access to services beyond the branch, reaching older adults and families who may not visit downtown. Parker also said staff will be at the Dixon Mayfair this year, extending library presence at community events.
The presentation ended without commissioner questions on the program specifics; the commission then opened the floor for public comment.
