Commissioner Ron Turpin told the Council that county leaders are assessing how to monetize the 62-acre north parcel of the former Byron Health property and that options include a co-development that could yield higher net proceeds over a longer period or an auction that would put cash in county hands more quickly.
"If we could get at least $8 million from an auction and get that money right away, the time value of that over the next five, six, seven years to us is important," Turpin said, describing a potential auction floor of at least $8 million and noting a co-development could net a higher long-term return (he cited a hypothetical net around $12 million after expenses).
Turpin said the county had obtained appraisals and would include disclosures about carve-outs and environmental issues in an auction packet. He invited Council discussion and expected the commissioners to return with a recommended approach in about 30 days. Turpin also discussed related space-planning work, including a possible move of community corrections to the Meyer Road campus and consolidation of Health Department operations.
