Preservation trust wins board approval for 15% contingencies on courthouse tile contracts

Robyn Zimmerman, representing the Allen County Courthouse Preservation Trust, asked the commissioners to add a 15 percent contingency to the contracts with F&M Flooring Contractors and with Wilson Custom Design Tile to cover the cost of replacing century-old encaustic tiles at the courthouse.
Zimmerman said about 10 percent of roughly 300 broken tiles have been replaced to date and that each tile is custom manufactured by hand for color and design. Commissioners Therese M. Brown and Ronald W. Turpin moved and seconded approval of both contingency amendments, which the board approved unanimously during the session.
