Allen County Drainage Board approves routine encroachments, sets multiple public hearings

At its June 4 meeting, the Allen County Drainage Board approved a slate of encroachments and new regulated drains tied to residential development, certified multiple maintenance assessments, and set public hearings for July 16, 2026, on several drain vacations and reconstruction plans.
Therese Brown, chair of the Allen County Drainage Board, convened the June 4 meeting and the board approved minutes from May 21, 2026.
The board voted to approve a series of consent-agenda items including encroachments for Sparrow Harbor, Sierra Ridge, Broad Acres/Grasslands, and related subdivisions, and certified periodic maintenance assessments for Sonora Sec III, Thunderhawk Sec II, Sierra Ridge Sec I and Maumee Meadows Sec I. Assessments approved included Sonora Sec III at $50 per lot for 74 lots (annual collection $3,700) and Sierra Ridge Sec I at $50 per lot for 61 lots (annual $3,050). ACSO recommended approval on each item; motions were made by Ronald W. Turpin and seconded by Richard E. Beck Jr., and each motion carried.
The board also approved motions to proceed and set public hearings on July 16, 2026, for several vacation petitions (CP Benward branches, Kensington Downs, Maplewood Park & Gardens, Oakhurst Park) and a tentative hearing for Ballou Drain reconstruction related to Empress Estates, subject to possible date change. Larry Weber (ACSO) noted that Branch 4 runs to the south when asked for clarification.
