Allen County officials briefed on $159,000 IDEM grant for St Marys Watershed study

Dr. Julie Davis Good, director of the Allen County Soil and Water Conservation District, told the commissioners that a $159,000 grant from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management will fund an updated, holistic analysis of the St Marys Watershed.
She and staff said monitoring covers the watershed from Fort Wayne through Adams County to the Ohio border and that testing shows generally low nitrogen and improving E. coli levels, but “the other elements are quite high and are not correlated to rainfall dilution,” a point presenters tied to agricultural and conservation practices rather than drinking-water safety. Officials emphasized the grant supports analysis and updated engineering and conservation plans that have been in use for more than 25 years. No action was required of the board beyond the presentation.
