Hononegah highlights strong AP performance and Class of 2026 outcomes

Superintendent Mike Dugan presented academic metrics for Hononegah's recent year and Class of 2026 during the June 17 board meeting.
Dugan told the board that 556 Hononegah students took 1,124 Advanced Placement exams in 2025, and of the 1,048 tests scored that year 87% resulted in a score of 3 or higher. The district reported 210 AP Scholars for 2025—an increase of 18 from 2024. For the Class of 2026, the top 25 students averaged an SAT score of 1,359 (roughly equivalent to an ACT of 30); the valedictorian posted a 4.92 GPA and the salutatorian a 4.86. The district said 84 graduates were named Illinois State Scholars.
Hononegah also reported a U.S. News & World Report ranking improvement to 44th in Illinois and 1,047th nationally for 2025, up from 55th and 1,370th the prior year. The board record shows 90.4% of staff hold a master's degree or higher and a 93% teacher retention rate.
