The project team reported outreach to Weston & Sampson for geotechnical exploration to better understand soils under and around the building. The geotechnical scope includes exterior borings near the main entrance and hand-auger borings in the courtyard; the team described that geotech laboratory testing would characterize soils and bearing conditions to inform foundation and infill feasibility.
The team also presented an optional environmental sampling layer for analytical testing and flagged a previous oil tank removal at the site that could warrant deeper testing. "...they also threw in here if we, do another layer of environmental, exploration, with the samples, an additional fee here of the 9,500 there," the Staff member said, identifying the optional cost for environmental analysis. Committee members noted that any additional testing would be extra to the base scope and could be scheduled later as the design direction warrants.
