"[The infill] allows us to get a full size high school sized gym, ... plus bleachers for about 450 or so people," the Presenter said while describing Option 3. Committee members raised community-use concerns: some favored a standalone or adjacent gym to allow after-hours access without opening the entire school, while the project team proposed compartmentalized locking egresses and dedicated access points to allow off-hours use while keeping the remainder of the building secure.
Several members also discussed the trade-off between adding bleacher seating for whole-school events and the cost and site impacts of an infill addition; those wanting larger assemblies noted Option 3 more readily accommodates concerts and whole-school gatherings than the minimal renovation options.
