Design funded by NMDOT grant; construction funding still sought

County staff confirmed the project's design phase financing and schedule during the virtual update. "The design phase is being funded through a federal grant through NMDOT," Sabrina Schrader said, adding the federal grant pays for approximately 85% of the design costs while Doña Ana County covers the remaining 15%.
Schrader said design is on schedule to be completed by the end of summer, but as of July 30 no construction funds had been secured. She stated staff will finalize the design and operations-and-maintenance plan and continue pursuing construction funding; until those funds are secured, there is no set start date for construction.
