Riley County appraiser reports 2026 home‑sale median of $280,000; inspections and BOTA appeals ongoing

Anna Person, representing the county appraiser's office, presented the department's monthly staff update, including sales and inspection statistics for 2026 and the status of exemption and appeal hearings.
"There's approximately 597 residential sales to date for 2026, with a median sale price of 280,000 and average sale price right around 322,019," Person said. She added the office is about 93% complete on 154 reinspections and is tracking several Board of Tax Appeals (BOTA) items; two exemption applications were recently submitted to BOTA and one scheduled hearing was continued to a half‑day date.
Why it matters: appraisal and exemption work feed directly into taxable valuations and the county tax base. Commissioners asked about mapping sales geographically; Person offered to work with GIS to produce a location map that would show where sales are concentrated without disclosing individual property details.
