Elizabeth, Riley County's human resources director, presented June and July staffing metrics and said the county currently shows about 287 regular employees and a 12‑month turnover rate just over 10%.
"We currently have 6 openings, and that means actual recruiting is happening," Elizabeth said, adding that the county made offers for two treasurer positions that were accepted and that the county is implementing a 30/60/90 onboarding program aimed at retention. She also outlined steps to improve the health department's billing and cash handling, and said staff are finalizing position descriptions ahead of recruitment for a county administrator role.
Why it matters: staffing levels and turnover affect service continuity for county programs including elections, public health and emergency services. Elizabeth flagged the health‑department reorganization and billing controls as priorities that could affect operations and public services in upcoming months.
