Toms River board honors student representatives, athletics and Eagle Scouts at May meeting

The Toms River Regional School District Board of Education opened its May meeting with student recognitions and awards from each high school, as outgoing student representatives reflected on the year and introduced successors.
From Toms River High School South, student representative Mikayla Manzi thanked administrators, teachers and her peers for the opportunity to represent the school and introduced Emily Bell as the next student representative. "Because at South, we are loud, we are proud, and we are TR," Manzi said, summarizing the year's spirit and activities. Manzi listed senior events, theatre and athletics highlights and thanked principal and staff by name for their support.
At High School East, student leader Mikayla Milanak reflected on her term as student body president and introduced Tyler Cura as the incoming president. Milanak noted senior prom, graduation events and athletic milestones, including a boys' lacrosse win and regional tournament progress. High School North representative Alicia Lobello highlighted AP testing, scholarship night and senior activities, congratulated valedictorian and salutatorian and introduced Lauren Coop as the incoming North representative.
The board also presented awards for athletics, music and scouting. North's softball coach Julia Friscia accepted recognition for a Liberty Division championship. Music teacher Heather Coe presented honors to more than 50 elementary musicians who participated in regional honors ensembles. The board and attendees recognized several Eagle Scouts for service projects that included picnic-area construction and bicycle-repair stands.
The recognitions were followed by short superintendent remarks honoring student achievements and offering condolences to a neighboring district after a recent student fatality.
