The board approved the district's participation in a PARS retirement‑incentive program after staff presented results, projected costs and expected savings.
Staff reported that the PARS program led to 24 certificated nonmanagement, 3 certificated management, 2 classified management and 17 classified nonmanagement employees accepting the retirement offer; staff said the program "was incredibly successful" in reducing positions that otherwise might be subject to layoff. Staff initially referenced an $800,000 cost but corrected the figure in the meeting to about $900,000 per year and said the savings over time exceeded the immediate cost.
Trustees discussed the program's morale effects as well as the financial implications; one trustee thanked staff for emphasizing the human impact of reductions at worksites. The board approved the PARS retirement-incentive resolution on a unanimous roll-call vote.
