Councilwoman Kim Mann reported the Shade Tree Advisory Committee (STAC) met May 14 and discussed applicants for a committee seat, budget status (current balance $864.50), and plans following the Arboretum opening. Attendance at the opening was estimated at 40 to 60 and roughly 50 young trees were distributed to residents. STAC recommended bringing more trees to future events, identifying the city arborist on site during events, and using the cabin as a staging area for smaller gatherings.
Next steps include mapping the current tree inventory, pursuing grant funding with a local nonprofit and selecting 10 MBT trees this year. STAC will coordinate the State of the Community event on June 10, with members attending and presenting.
