DCDC member urges DeWitt County to consider hotel tax including Airbnb and VRBO

Joe Witte, a member of the DeWitt County Development Council, told the Finance Committee that while DCDC pursues hotel feasibility studies, the county should consider a hotel tax that includes short-term rental platforms. The minutes record that "Witte indicated while DCDC is working on the hotel studies the county should look at implementing a county hotel tax that also includes Airbnb and VRBO as additional revenue source."
Committee members did not vote on a tax measure during the meeting; the comment was raised as a policy option while the committee considered funding the feasibility studies. Any change to tax policy would require formal consideration by the full board and, if adopted, may require state statutory compliance and administrative setup.
