Council authorizes up to $30,000 to extend sewer line on North 4th West after discovery during demolition

Director of City Planning and Land Use Shawn Oliverson and Public Works Director John Balls reported that when Ryan Harris and Travis Despain tore down an existing house at a property on North 4th West they discovered the sewer connection diverted across the Harris/Despain lot and tied into a shallow manhole. Staff recommended extending the sewer line north roughly 275 feet to a deeper manhole (about 8 feet deep) to correct the configuration.
Council voted unanimously to expend funds necessary to fix the sewer situation for up to 300 feet, with an estimated cost of $25,000–$30,000, starting near 124 North 4th West. The motion was moved by Councilmember Chris Larsen and seconded by Councilmember Todd Thomas.
