Peekskill to accept mobile radios from Westchester County to improve police interoperability

The Common Council voted May 12 to accept mobile radios from Westchester County and enter into an intermunicipal agreement to permit programming and installation for city police vehicles.
Police Chief (speaker 6) described the county's program to provide radios so local agencies can communicate with each other. He said, "Going forward this year, they're giving us mobile radios to put into the cars, and it comes at the price tag of free." Council members asked whether dispatch will integrate the radios and whether the radios can be used for OEM and dual‑agency vehicles; the chief said he will investigate and noted some portables already issued to the department for interoperability.
The council approved the resolution (j9) authorizing acceptance of radios and the intermunicipal agreement. Staff said programming and installation will proceed once the agreement is executed and the county provides the equipment.
