GIO cites federal grants, including about $250,000 USGS lidar award, as seed funding

Susan, the acting state geospatial information officer, told the committee the GIO role has been sustained in part by federal grants and regional matches but that those sources are time-limited.
"They offered a 100% match to a grant that came from the US Economic Development Administration. It was a 24 month grant," she said, describing how regional commissions matched federal funding to recruit the GIO. She also said the office recently secured a US Geological Survey grant of about $250,000 for lidar flights to produce high-quality elevation data for the state.
Committee members pressed on sustainability and whether the bill includes state dollars; lawmakers and Susan agreed the advisory council structure is intended to help identify durable funding streams but noted the bill itself carries no state appropriation.
