The chief cited a rise to 41,162 calls for service in 2024 and said reports and arrests increased as the department pursued more proactive policing, traffic enforcement and targeted operations with outside agencies. “For 2024, we received 41,162 calls for service,” he told the council. He also highlighted a significant increase in parking enforcement—21,594 parking tickets in 2024 after the department added a second parking enforcement officer—and noted multi‑year lead times for replacement fire trucks and ongoing capital needs. Councilors asked about overtime, staffing timetables and whether the department engages with federal immigration enforcement; the chief said the city is not conducting ICE operations and that staffing and funding remain priorities.
