Recreation staff presented a plan to expand community tennis offerings through a partnership with the Peekskill Racquet Association, a local registered community tennis association affiliated with the USTA.
"We're looking to partner or collaborate with the Peekskill Racquet Association to bring about expert level instruction, program development and outreach, and access to grant funding that the city cannot apply for," Recreation staffer Jonathan Zamora said. The association and the USTA connection would enable the city to seek grant funds for court resurfacing and programming; staff said scholarships and reduced‑rate options will be included to ensure access for low‑income youth. Margaret Defonce, a Peekskill resident and association member, said the group has run successful grassroots programming and plans to grow offerings.
Separately, Jonathan said the athletic field at DePuy Park will open Monday, May 5 after a third growing season of turf knit‑in and final organic fertilizer treatment; he said staff will keep the gates unlocked and monitor scheduling for summer programs.
