NDOW reports trout stocking and ongoing sage‑grouse counts; warmer mornings affecting lek counts

Moira Kolada, representing the Nevada Department of Wildlife, reported to the committee that NDOW stocked 5,000 rainbow trout at Illipah and Cave Lake and planned additional Comins stockings in the coming weeks. She said the department was two weeks into sage‑grouse counts but that wind and warmer morning temperatures were depressing lek activity and making counts more challenging.
Kolada said habitat conditions varied across the state—good in some areas and worse in others—and that NDOW would present more detailed proposals for habitat work to the Wildlife Commission in May. Committee members thanked NDOW for the update and noted the importance of continued monitoring as RMP and project reviews proceed.
