James L. Hamner Library hires new staff, expands programs and wins $10,000 accessibility grant

Library director Keith introduced new staff at the James L. Hamner Public Library and reviewed summer programming and technology upgrades.
Darlene Blake Murillo joined as the library's administrative assistant; Jennifer Hernandez is the new outreach coordinator; and Tammy Barber is the technical services administrator. Director Keith said the library has increased hours, seen almost 200 patrons on recent Mondays and has 140 children signed up for summer reading programs. "We were awarded the $10,000," Keith said, referring to an accessibility grant that will be used to order handicap-accessible furniture and related improvements.
The library also reported technology upgrades (increasing bandwidth from 50 Mbps to 500 Mbps and new network equipment for E-rate compliance), and upcoming children's programs including a dinosaur workshop and an archaeological camp.
