Amelia supervisors adopt FY27 budget; board also approves meals tax to start Oct. 1
Summary
The board adopted the fiscal year 2027 budget and approved a meals tax ordinance (effective Oct. 1) that had been included in the budget projections; several fee and personnel items were also approved during the meeting.
After prior work sessions and a public comment period, the Amelia County Board of Supervisors adopted the fiscal year 2027 budget resolution by voice vote.
Chair brought the budget to the floor and the board voted to adopt the FY27 resolution; no recorded roll-call tally was given in the meeting transcript. Members discussed prior public attendance at the budget hearing and noted that projected meals-tax revenue had been used to help balance the budget. The board later opened and closed a public hearing on a proposed meals tax and adopted an ordinance setting the meals tax to take effect Oct. 1. One supervisor said he would vote against the meals-tax ordinance on principle but the motion passed.
The meeting also included votes to approve employee bonuses effective June 30 and board authorization to execute an interim fire chief contract using budgeted funds. Water and sewer fee increases, animal control fees and environmental fees were presented in public hearings and adopted by vote.
