Commissioners vote 4–1 to ask Suwannee County to remove commissioners from NFWA board or begin dissolution process

After extended public comment and debate, Commissioner Hollingsworth moved that the board ask the Suwannee County Commission to remove its county commissioners from the North Florida Water Authority board within 30 days and, if they did not, to begin the process of dissolving the authority. Legal staff warned the interlocal agreement requires a joint resolution for instant dissolution and that unilateral withdrawal would follow a 180-day withdrawal process.

Despite those cautions and lengthy debate on procedure and fairness, the board voted on the motion. The chair called for the vote; the motion carried on a 4–1 voice vote. County counsel reminded the board that even with such a direction the interlocal agreement governs the mechanics and timing for asset transfer and dissolution and that appropriations and rate adoptions remain subject to separate, required steps.

The board also asked staff to ensure proper advertising and to provide detailed budget materials and legal analyses ahead of the scheduled public hearing on rates so commissioners and the public could consider the full financial consequences of any governance changes.
