Residents urge updates on surveillance policy and essential services building in public forum

Susie Struble read a citizen group's letter asking for clarification and a comprehensive review of Piedmont’s policies, practices, contracts and MOUs around the city’s 58 automatic license plate readers. "This surveillance data includes images and license plate data for all vehicles entering Piedmont along with time and location information, and this data can be used to infer the identity, associations, and movement patterns of a car's occupants," she said, and asked the city to identify gaps and potential conflicts and update governance documents as needed. The mayor thanked both speakers and closed public forum, noting staff and council may provide brief responses but cannot discuss new issues beyond jurisdictional limits during public forum.
