Cooper City Commission adopts lower millage rate of 5.845 for 2025–26

City Attorney read the legal basis for the second and final public hearing under section 200.065 of the Florida Statutes before the commission took up the millage. City Manager explained that the millage in the packet represents a reduction from last year’s rate and described it as a continuation of the commission’s multi-year effort to roll back taxes.
Commissioners praised staff and the finance team for the reduction and emphasized sensitivity to residents facing rising costs. “The fact that we were able to reduce the millage year over year for the past 6 years while prices are going up…shows our fiscal responsibility,” Commissioner Cashman said. Commissioner Schroeder and others pointed to the rollback as a sustained policy choice by the commission.
The commission called the vote and recorded unanimous approval. The resolution took effect as adopted and the commission moved on to consider the city’s final budget for 2025–26.
