DPS readies Careers Expo; recruitment improving but time-to-fill remains a challenge

Director Cynthia Razo-Porter briefed the Commission on recruitment and employee-support initiatives. The Careers Expo is scheduled for May 14, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Queen Kaahumanu Center; DPS will run radio ads on Pacific Media Group and provide live coverage with on-the-spot interviews. Applications are trending high, but the department continues to face challenges with overall time-to-fill vacancies despite small improvements.
The Department also announced a negotiated supplemental agreement delivering a one-step salary increase for BU03 and BU04 employees (white-collar employees and supervisors) effective May 1, 2026; a subsequent step increase is scheduled for July 1, 2026 to further reduce pay gaps identified in a salary survey. Employee Assistance Program utilization was noted as meaningful and Naomi Sutton will be succeeded by Desiree Santana Wyndham as Director of Worklife.
