Committee members spent the meeting reviewing table-of-contents examples from neighboring counties to organize a comprehensive county zoning ordinance. Several members recommended starting with the more detailed templates (Richland and Grant) and removing sections that do not apply, rather than writing a full ordinance from scratch.
Members discussed necessary sections — general provisions, district definitions, board of adjustment and appeals processes, land-division rules, and fees — and agreed staff should circulate the Richland/Grant examples for members to mark up. The committee also discussed how to label tribal trust land in mapping tools (suggestions included 'Ho-Chunk land' or 'federal land') so that map readers immediately know where the county has limited authority.
Staff and members said they will meet again next month to choose a base template and begin drafting district definitions; the item remains on the agenda for August.
