Bristow leaders preview FY2026–27 budget, cite infrastructure and public-safety pressures

Mayor Kris Wyatt opened a special meeting June 1 to present the proposed Fiscal Year 2026–27 budget, framing it as "one of the most important tasks" for staff and council and tying the plan to the city's ability to recruit employers and residential development. She identified infrastructure investment, including the expected expansion of the Turner Turnpike, as central to economic growth and praised the hospital's transition to Saint Francis Hospital as a major improvement.

Treasurer Ashley Hinshaw said she built the budget using figures "as close to the actual numbers" as possible and that staff set aside a 9% increase assumption for insurance; Wyatt said the actual insurance increase was 7%. The exchange underscored budget uncertainty around rising costs and insurance premiums. Resident Savana Vasquez asked whether the insurance change required revising the budget; Wyatt said the city could adopt the budget and later revise it if necessary.

Council discussion ranged from department-level increases to staffing and maintenance needs across police, fire, parks and the library. Mayor Wyatt said staff will continue to evaluate overtime, interdepartmental transfers and potential grant opportunities. No formal vote on the budget itself was taken at the meeting; the council moved only to adjourn after the budget presentation.
