Residents and council oppose closing 2nd Street railroad crossing; council votes to keep it open

Resident Kristian Weaver asked the council to consider long-term impacts and said she did not want the crossings closed. Resident Van Bell said closing the crossing would force children to use less-safe routes to stores and noted semitruck traffic on 2nd Street.
Councilmember Joe Church and Councilmember Dorothy Livingston voiced their opposition to additional crossing closures, with Church calling it the railroad's responsibility rather than the city's. The council then closed the public hearing and voted on a motion by Councilmember Jeff Roberts, seconded by Councilmember Joe Church, to not close the 2nd Street Railroad Crossing; the roll call showed Church, Fletcher, Green, Livingston and Roberts voting ‘Aye.’
