Staff confirmed the city’s traditional Fourth of July parade will take place on July 4 and outlined logistics, float recruitment and entertainment plans.
"I do know that the parade starts at 11," Eva Phelan told commissioners when asked about timing. She said live music will run in Piedmont Park until 3 p.m., about 25 floats were already committed, and the committee will accept additional entries through mid‑ to late‑June.
Organizers encouraged neighborhood participation and offered ideas for low‑barrier entries (walking groups, decorated bikes, pet groups) and noted prizes would be awarded to entries. The committee also announced Chief Bowers will serve as grand marshal this year as part of his retirement recognition.
No formal objections were raised in commission discussion; staff will continue outreach to bolster neighborhood involvement.
