Eva Phelan presented a recap of the Play Like a Girl event, describing it as an inclusive sports showcase for girls and youth that brought together community organizations, professional athletes and volunteers.
"We had 1000 plus attendees this year," Phelan said, noting the event included 29 sports stations, about 42 volunteers and a sports equipment swap so families could access low‑cost gear. Local media (CBS, KTVU, Fox, NBC, ABC and Telemundo) covered the event.
Organizers noted the event is designed to introduce girls and people who identify as female to a wide variety of sports in a supportive environment; staff said many participants signed up for free camps or were subsequently connected with year‑round programs and leagues.
The event sponsors and volunteers were thanked on the record, and staff encouraged commissioners and neighborhoods to continue supporting recruitment and outreach for the event in future years.
