The Select Board approved an interim plan for the transfer station and moved to pursue capital equipment to improve recycling data and reduce costs. The board explicitly authorized the transfer station attendant to transport recyclable paper, plastics and cardboard to NCES using a town truck and trailer as a temporary measure to avoid $465 per-trip charges.
Staff reported vendors’ pricing and a limited-time opportunity for equipment: a pallet jack with a built-in scale was available at a discounted price, totaling $4,003.60 with service and setup. "So they're closing this grant out next month," the Staff member said about NH Recycles, urging the board to move quickly to capture up to 20% grant support. The board voted to work with NH Recycles and related entities to procure the pallet-scale and to seek maximum reimbursement; staff was authorized to complete grant paperwork and sign necessary documents.
The board also discussed long-term options including single-stream dumpsters, balers and compactors. A new vertical baler was quoted at $10,450, but members noted storage and volume constraints and reserved judgment pending further data from scales and vendor quotes. The pallet-scale purchase was approved to provide production data and support future decisions on balers or compactors.
