Council authorizes mayor to sign WSDOT agreement for SR 531 utility relocation, $56,073 cost

The Arlington City Council authorized the mayor to sign an agreement with the Washington State Department of Transportation to relocate city-owned utilities affected by the SR 531 widening project.
Jim Kelly told the council that "there are 4 gate valves and 3 sanitary sewer manholes that need to be adjusted," and that the total cost for the water relocation is $34,728 while the sewer manhole relocations will cost $21,345. He said those costs will be included in the 2027–28 budgeting process.
Councilmember Tim Abrahamson asked for confirmation of the project limits; Jim Kelly confirmed the segment runs from 43rd to 59th. A motion authorizing the mayor to sign the agreement with WSDOT was moved, seconded and passed with no recorded opposition.
Jim Kelly noted the approval means the city is "one step closer" to the SR 531 widening progressing, and staff will incorporate the utility relocation costs into upcoming budget work.
