During the public‑comment period, multiple homeowners described long delays and substantial financial losses after contracting for accessory dwelling units (ADUs). Merle Simmons said she filed complaint #20242115 in August 2024 against Anchor Tiny Homes and provided requested documentation but heard nothing substantive after March 2025; she described an open trench and unpaid subcontractors left at the site. "It’s now been a year and five months," she said, adding that the ADU had been for her 98‑year‑old father.
Other commenters recounted similar experiences. Alyssa Pratt said she contracted with Prefab Innovations in January 2024 and estimated losing about $230,000 plus roughly $30,000 in legal fees. Christy Johnson said she and her husband paid about $193,000 for an ADU intended for an elderly parent and that they were not included among complainants referred to the Attorney General’s case. Multiple speakers asked for better tracking of investigations and clearer communication from investigators assigned to consumer complaints.
Committee chairs and staff acknowledged the hardship described by commenters and said enforcement staff would meet with affected consumers where possible; they also reiterated the statutory constraint on committee members discussing matters raised by public comment during a remote meeting. Staff asked affected homeowners to provide documentation and indicated supervisors were available after the session to discuss case status.
