Cookeville City Council on Aug. 6 approved on first reading Ordinance O-26-0813, which updates the municipal code provisions governing mobile food vendors to reflect changes in the Department of Leisure Services policy. The ordinance updates definitions, strengthens the tie between city code and the department policy, and explicitly lists exemptions when vendor permits are not required for certain events. "Ordinance O-26-0813 updates...strengthens the tie between the municipal code and the leisure services policy, and clearly states some exemptions when mobile food vendor permits are not required for certain events," staff said during the presentation.
The ordinance was presented as a housekeeping and alignment measure after Leisure Services updated its policy earlier in July. Staff recommended approval on first reading; Councilman Gilbert moved the motion, it was seconded and the clerk recorded a 5-0 vote to advance the ordinance. The measure will return for a second reading and potential adoption at a later meeting.
